Tesco Direct Clothing Range

Tesco direct have recently launched an entire clothing range for their online catalogue. This is the final piece in the jigsaw and will see them compete directly with the likes of littlewoods and the other big name players. They already have a successful and growing non food catalogue, and the addition of a clothing line puts it one step ahead of their bitter rivals, argos, who do not sell clothes. As you can imagine, tesco will not stop until they have dominated the catalogue shopping market, so the others better beware.

The clothing catalogue has a mens and womens department, and the focus is on affordable clothes, not designer labels, although there are some to choose from such as Nike, Calvin Klein and Timberland in the sports section. It seems tesco have bucked the trend and are offering something a bit different to the others. Cheap clothes will sell in the current economic times, of that there is no doubt.

At the moment the selection is pretty small, and not as extensive as the other retailers, but just like with their direct catalogue, this will grow in the coming months and years. It will take time to build up the stock and source it from their suppliers. The tesco brand is already very strong, so this will help them out, and their intention is to become the leading clothing provider in the UK.

There is also a girls and boys section, and they will cater for school uniforms and other related clothes. Most of the clothes are tesco's own labels, and these have sold well at some of their larger stores. The UK online fashion market is huge, and tesco has been very slow to join the rest, probably losing out on a lot of money in the process. ASOS has led the way, with unbelievable sales growth over the last year, despite the current financial problems. By selling own label clothes it is hoped that the tesco range will appeal to budget shoppers. It is just a way of getting these products in front of more potential buyers, so it makes a lot of sense.
